SOUVALA

After Vathi the road descends towards Souvala, the second port of the island 10 kilometers north of the city of Aegina.

The name of the settlement came from the many small tanks (souvales), which in the old days the inhabitants built with stones, digging pits 5-6 meters into the ground, to collect water for the animals them and themselves.

Souvala is a beautiful traditional fishing village with a beach, nice taverns, bars, cafes, hotels, rooms for rent and also has a pharmacy, supermarket, bakery and butcher. It is a wonderful holiday resort, full of life and movement.

In Souvala there is a beach with warm thermal waters, known by the old name Therma, a sulphurous hot spring suitable for the treatment of rheumatism and skin diseases. One kilometer after Souvala, to the east, along the coast, there is the holiday village of Agioi in a green environment and at 5 kilometers the village of Vaya an organized sandy beach, with archaeological findings .

Souvala is connected by buses to the city of Aegina. The journey is about 30 minutes. Behind the village there is a good road that leads to Paleochora, a medieval town and the Monastery of Agios Nektarios.

After Vaya turn south towards Mesagro, the Aphaia Church and the Church of Agia Marina. Souvala is the second largest port of Aegina and is directly connected to the port of Piraeus.
